For hedge laying, ploughing matches and rural skills
Entries in before the frost. No cheques in the post.
Hedge laying competitions, ploughing matches, sheepdog trials and dry stone walling days still run on paper entry forms and cheques. Ticket Folk takes entries online, class by class, and sorts the stewards, trade stands and spectators too.
Join the waiting listHow it’s usually done
- A PDF entry form printed, filled in and posted with a cheque
- Entries by text message the night before
- Stewards rounded up by phone
- Car park money in a bucket, in the rain
Entries by class.
Make a ticket type for each class: novice, open, junior, horse ploughing, tractor. Competitors enter and pay online, each class keeps its own limit, and every entry arrives with a reference you can read out.
- One ticket type per class, each with a limit
- Free entries for juniors, if you like
- A three-word reference for every entry
Spectators and parking.
Sell spectator and car parking tickets alongside the entries. On the day, the car park crew look people up by registration, with or without signal.
- Spectator and parking tickets
- Search by car registration
- Sell on the gate from a phone
Stewards and trade stands.
Stewards, marshals and helpers apply for the jobs they’d like. Trade stands send their application and insurance in one go.
- Jobs that show how full they are
- Trade stand applications with documents
- A team leader for the stewards
How the year goes
- Summer: Copy last year’s match. Set up a ticket type for each class.
- September: Entries open on the date you set. Stewards and trade stands apply.
- The week before: See every entry by class, and every steward by job.
- Match day: Look up entries and cars by name, reference or registration, even when the signal drops.
Questions
- Can we keep separate classes and limits?
- Yes. Each class is its own ticket type with its own price and limit, so open entries can’t fill the novice class.
- Some competitors would rather fill in a paper form. Can we still take those?
- Yes. Record them as door sales from a phone, so every entry ends up in the same list as the online ones.
- Can you record results and scores?
- Not yet. Ticket Folk handles entries, spectators, stewards and stands. Keep judging sheets the way you do now.
- There’s no signal at the field. Will it work?
- Yes. Check-in and search work offline on each phone and catch up when there’s a connection.
- What does it cost to sell tickets?
- Free for founding organisers while we’re starting out, with every feature, and for a year, 12 events or 1,000 tickets after our fee starts. Then 2.5% an order, never more than £2.50.
